To Brody Hodge

Are you tired of the evil associated with the philosophies of all the world’s religions? After all, an all-powerful deity that allows evil to exist must itself be at least part evil.
Do you feel conflicted about the fact that the Old Testament appears to offer no basis for establishing moral standards? If you can find any, let me know. If we humans are not constituted of chemicals, and we are not animals, what are we made of, and what are we? Or is it just Christians that are so unique?
Are you tired of the fact that the Bible contains little that is scientifically valid? Are you bothered that if you want to verify anything that is real, the Bible is the last book you would consult?
The weekend comes at the end of the working week, that’s why it’s called the weekend. I’m surprised that an intelligent (presumably) person like yourself hasn’t realised that. Where I work, Monday is the first day of the working week, and why would an all-powerful deity feel the need to rest anyway?
Atheism makes perfect sense in my worldview. There is not one scintilla of a trace that any deities now or ever have ever existed. I don’t say there are no gods, angels or demons (Hobbits, Leprachauns or fairies), I just maintain that it’s going to take much more than myths and fantasy stories to convince me otherwise. By claiming to know what your deity wants, doesn’t that rather make you the one aspiring to godhood?
I don’t proselytise. But that’s not to say I won’t defend my position against the onslaught of unreasoned hatred that is spouted by fundamentalist religionists like yourself.
I don’t need to find evidence that contradicts the Bible’s account of creation. I just need to read it, think about as a reasonably intelligent adult, and come to the conclusion that it’s sheer nonsense.
Why would a Christian care to live one moment longer in a material universe when they think they know there is something far better waiting for them elsewhere? Is it because they’re secretly afraid that they’re wrong? It doesn’t bother me that I wasn’t around 467 trillion years ago, so why should I care about not being around 467 trillion years in the future?
Death is the end of life. If that scares you, I sympathise. As an atheist, I’ve come to terms with that fact. As a reasonably intelligent adult, I’ve come to terms with that fact. If you can’t come to terms with that fact, sorry, there’s nothing I can do for you.
